Traditional halotherapy is broken down into two categories, wet and dry halotherapy methods.

Ways to perform wet halotherapy:

Using a saline nasal rinse

Ways to perform dry halotherapy:

Using a device called a halogenerator, which grinds salt into microscopic particles and releases them into the air.

Himalayan salt lamps work by the scientific concept of hygroscopy, which attracts and absorbs toxic molecules from the air and attracts them into the salt crystal. Airborne contaminants such as cigarette smoke, bacteria, viruses and dust can be reduced simply by introducing a pure Himalayan salt lamp into your home or office. Himalayan salt lamps are also believed to help relieve allergy symptoms and sinus congestion. Many patients with asthma claim to have improved symptoms when they are exposed to Himalayan salt.

People suffering from seasonal affective disorder, emotional disturbances and depression have reported feeling an improvement in their mood after using a salt lamp. What are Chakras and How to Balance Them

Chakras are defined as energy centers of the body. Each chakra is connected to different organs, energy sources and emotions. If you are struggling with a specific emotion or health in a certain area or body system, alternative practitioners recommend focusing on healing that specific chakra. Meditation has been used to “tap into” chakras and promote wellness and rejuvenation.

Chakras can also be defined as a part of the human energy field. It is believed the be part of subconscious or spiritual part of the human essence or auras. The concept of spiritual auras is taught in various different religions. In Christianity, the aura is referred to as a soul. In New Age beliefs, the aura is taught as a colored illumination that reveals the subconscious state of the human it belongs to. In other belief systems, auras are referred to as chakras, which are defined as emotional/spiritual centers in the body.  

There are seven chakras:

The Crown Chakra- Located just above the crown of the head and is associated with metaphysical consciousness.

The Third Eye Chakra- Located in the center of the brain and is associated with wisdom, intelligence and conscious awareness of both the physical and metaphysical realms. It is physically connected to the pineal gland.  

The Throat Chakra- Located in the throat and is associated with communicating and speaking ones truth. It is physically connected to the thyroid and hypothalamus.

The Heart Chakra- Located in the chest and represents love and acceptance of self and others. It is physically connected to the heart and circulatory system.

The Solar Plexus Chakra- Located in the abdomen and represents personal dominance and willpower. It is physically connected to the organs: pancreas, liver and stomach.

The Sacral Chakra- Located at the base of the spine and pelvic area just above the coccyx. It represents both positive and negative strong emotions and sexual expression. It is physically connected to the  bladder and male and female reproductive organs.

The Root Chakra- Located at the base of the pelvic in the perineum area and represents safety, survival instincts and a feeling of security or lack thereof. Associated with the organs: colon and kidneys.

Keeping your chakras balanced cleansed and at peace is an important part of living a healthy life.

Below is a list of simple ways to balance your chakras.

1-      Meditate.  Whether you meditate through prayer, transcendental meditation, or Hindu ritual, spending time in a calm mental state is beneficial to finding peace and serenity. Meditating at least three times a week can help you keep your aura pure.

2-      Spend time in Nature.  Sitting in the sunshine, feeling the wind blow, walking around barefoot and listening to the rain are great ways to connect to your spiritual inner being.    

3-      Reduce your chemical and electromagnetic exposure.  Toxins, chemicals and unnatural electronic vibes can disrupt your natural harmony. Keeping your exposure to these environmental factors low will help you reduce the stress on your spiritual aura. Instead of turning a lamp on, open the shades. Turn your phone off when not in use and be vigilant of all foods and drinks you ingest.

4-      Utilize the Elements. Humans are automatically drawn to the elements because we require them to survive.  In the current age, we have gotten away from most exposure to the elements thanks to modern conveniences. We no longer use candles as primary sources of light or spend as much time in soil gardening due to the conveniences of grocery stores. Spending time in the elements is a wonderful way to connect to your inner being.

5-      Eliminate Negative Sources. Whether it be negative people or situations, try to avoid as many harmful influences as possible. Dark energy can come in many forms and it is important to protect your aura with positive thoughts and influences.

Balancing your chakra is just like personal hygiene such as showering, it must be done daily in order to be the most effective. Take care of yourself in your mind, body and spirit. You are worth it.

In ancient times, Egyptians widely used color therapy in their healing rituals by utilizing items such as crystals, minerals, stones, plants and dyes. Archaeologist have even discovered differently colored healing chambers in ancient treatment areas. The Egyptians highly regarded colors as powerful and believed their god, Thoth, aided in the use of healing with colors.

Chromotherapy is defined as a practice that exposes patients to a visible spectrum of colors in the form of electromagnetic light to promote healing.

 

But in the current day, are colors really able to help us find better health?

A study published by the Department of Physics at the University of Balochista stated that colors generate electrical vibrations and emit energy that activate processes in the human body. Chromotherapy is believed to promote hormonal secretions of stimulants and sedatives the body releases to balance functioning systems such as the sleep/wake cycle and the natural circadian rhythm.

Scientist Dinshah P. Ghadiali, author of the Spectro-Chrome Encyclopaedia stated that the main goal of Chromotherapy is to promote healing by resetting the balance of energies in the body. His research discovered that colors emit energy and vibrations that either sedate or stimulate natural biochemical reactions. His research claims when energy of certain colors is exposed to different organs and systems of the body, one could apply the correct color to help balance an organ or body system and promote healing.

Currently, light therapy is an accepted practice in some forms of modern medicine. For example, in neonatal care units, babies with jaundice are exposed to blue light. This blue light exposure is used to break down an excess of bilirubin in the newborn’s liver. Modern physicians also use light therapy in patients with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) to help manage symptoms of depression, anxiety and low moods.

Certain colors are believed to impact specific body systems. Yellow light is said to provide healing to internal tissues and purify the skin. Red light is believed to impact the circulatory and nervous system, promote red blood cell production and encourage the body to burn fat. Orange light has been shown to aid in respiratory issues and induce a more calming mood. This is why many alternative practitioners recommend the use of Himalayan salt lamps, which emit healing negative ions, purify the air and provide a serene orange glow. Green light in chromotherapy is used to promote calm energy and relaxation. Purple light is believed to directly impact the lymphatic system and treat various forms of inflammation. And as previously stated, blue light is used to treat liver issues and to lower bilirubin levels. Blue light exposure has also been linked to inducing the production of melatonin and to help promote a better night’s sleep.

How to practice Chromotherapy

Many people find health benefits from experiencing sessions in a chromotherapy sauna, which is an infrared sauna that contains healing lights to promote detoxification, balance and wellness.

There are also other ways you can practice chromotherapy at home. An inexpensive way to do this is to purchase colored incandescent bulbs and place them into lamps around your home. As mentioned previously, certain colors promote different things. For example, if you have a fussy child who struggles to fall asleep, placing a blue light bulb in the lamp in there room and exposing them to that light an hour before bedtime may help induce a feeling of calmness and help them fall asleep easier. You can use a variety of other colors to promote different atmospheres.  People have reported an increase in physical stamina and internal will-power when they exercised while being exposed to red light. Red is a color that, for most people, symbolizes strength and power.

Color photons have their own wavelength and frequency. The way we perceive colors is because of their emitted vibrations and each color reacts to our eyes and body cells in a certain way as a result. Everyone’s perception is different as well. Therefore, one color may be calming to one person, but alarming to another. This is why natural practitioners work with clients to find colors, lights, sounds and other natural modalities that promote healing specific to each patient.

In your own home, you can place differently colored light bulbs in your lamps and see what your body responds to. You may find that a specific color makes you feel better verses another color.

Anyone who practices aromatherapy can tell you the benefits from using an essential oil diffuser. These machines allow us to fill our homes, offices and even cars with the therapeutic effects of essential oils. But if not cleaned properly, essential oil diffusers can actually become a health hazard.

Below is a list of how to properly care for your essential oil diffuser.

1-      Choose a high quality essential oil diffuser. There are multiple types of diffusers:  ultrasonic, nebulizing, heat and evaporative.

Ultrasonic diffusers work by emitting oil particles into the air when added to water.  Nebulizing diffusers are waterless yet they work by emitting particles of essential oils into the air. Evaporative diffusers typically disperse the essential oils by using a fan mechanism. Heat diffusers transfer essential oils into the air by using high temperatures. Choosing the right diffuser for you is a personal choice depending on the types of oils you diffuse for what benefit and also the size of the environment you are diffusing in. They all have different benefits and only you can choose what is right for you. You can also purchase multiple ones for different uses. Either way, diffusers are a great way to incorporate aromatherapy into your life!

 

2-      Change the water between oils. It can be tempting to just keep adding drops to your diffuser but it will distort the scent and therapeutic effects. Certain essential oils do not blend well together (such as cinnamon and eucalyptus) So, it is imperative you start fresh when you are diffusing. To achieve the best aromatherapy possible, change the water between scents.

 

3-      Use high quality, therapeutic grade oils. Discount and low-quality oils are typically filled with additives that can clog or harm your diffuser. Before you purchase any essential oils, be sure that it is a high-quality product that is pure. 4-      Once a week, remove the water from your diffuser and wipe the interior with a tiny amount (1tsp) of rubbing alcohol. Allow to completely dry before adding water again. This will dry any excess oils left behind so you can begin to diffuse fresh scents at the next use!

 

5-      Keep the connecting power cord dry when you are replacing the water. It is common for people to accidentally splash water when they are adding to their diffuser but this can actually corrode the power cord and cause it to malfunction. Always unplug your diffuser before you change or add water to prevent the risk of electrocution.

Precautions: Be sure to keep your essential oil diffuser in a safe place away from children and pets. Certain essential oils are not safe for children and you should use caution when diffusing. Certain essential oils do not blend well together. Please research which oils are safe to mix before attempting to blend them.

1- There are good and evil spirits.

1 John 4:1-6 (ESV)

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

This passage clearly states that there are both good and bad spirits in the world. Every human being has a spirit. God gives us a warning here to be aware that not everyone who claims to be good is good. He warns us in these verses to discern between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Every human has a spirit but some choose to follow Christ and are good and others choose to follow themselves or Satan. It is important to biblically discern the spiritual influences around you. Everyone who claims the name of Christ does not know Him. God wants us to look at actions instead of just words.

2- We have to keep our spirit focused.

Galatians 5:25  (ESV)

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

 

Our spirits can become overwhelmed by many things in this world. One of the main things that can overwhelm us is the negativity and struggles of life. When the bills aren’t paid, when sickness comes, when people leave us we tend to take our focus off of the Great Spirit and put all our attention to our problems.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

This passage shows how the Great Spirit intercedes in our moments of pain, loss and suffering. When our mortal human bodies have had enough, we can lean on Him to help us in our weakness. When our spirit is weak, HE can give us the strength we need to endure whatever we are going through.

I love the concept at the end of this verse “groanings too deep for words” because how many times have we ached so badly and felt so defeated we couldn’t even speak? In our weakest times, the Great Spirit is there to comfort us.

3- Your mind does matter.

Romans 8:6

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

When your mind gets overwhelmed with pain and problems, it can literally make you feel like death. Being overcome and depressed by life’s circumstances can absolutely destroy your flesh.  Take it from someone with a painful, incurable health condition. When your mind is messed up, it makes everything worse.

The verse above explains that when our minds are focused on fleshly. worldly things we will not have life and peace. When our minds are focused on the Spirit and good things, we can achieve serenity.

Does that mean positive thinking will make all your problems go away?  No, but when you constantly focus on things you can’t change or problems you wish you could solve, you just add to your struggle. There are somethings in life that are beyond terrible that we will have to go through. People abandon us. Loved ones die. Health fails. Money runs out. Betrayals happen. Abuse occurs.

But when we constantly focus on what’s wrong, we lose sight of what’s right.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
When our spirits become burdened and overwhelmed, God wants us to focus on the good things. Shifting our focus from the negative may not change the situation, but it will change your perception.

3- We fight darkness.

Ephesians 6:12 

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

There are plenty of dark forces at work in this world. We, as Christians are called to be light workers, which makes us automatically targets for Satan and demons. It is important to not dabble in darkness and keep our spirits near as much light as possible.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

God does not want any Christians to associate with any forms of darkness. When you do, you are asking dark forces to enter your life.  Though Christians cannot be possessed, they can be oppressed by dark forces.

And oppression of dark forces doesn’t always mean demons or fallen spirits. Dark forces can be in your life in the form of critical or negative influences. As we mentioned earlier in this article, there are good and bad spirits.  People can be tools of the devil if they are constantly selfish and devoid of the Spirit of the Lord.

Avoid every form of darkness that you can. Keep your spirit focused on the Great Spirit.

So what does the Bible say about Smudging?

Upon my research, I found that the Bible mentions burning incense hundreds of times during prayer and Hebrew rituals.

Revelation 8:3-4

And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.

Exodus 30:1-3

You shall make an altar on which to burn incense; you shall make it of acacia wood.

Psalm 141:1-3

Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee. Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

The burning of incense was seen as a highly respected spiritual ritual.  God’s character does not change so in the modern day, I think He still sees this practice as a an act of reverence to him.

We are under Grace since the Resurrection of Christ, so the ancient Hebrew rituals are no longer necessary for salvation. But we are still called to worship God and commune with him through prayer, communion and treating others as Christ would.

How to Biblically Smudge your Home

1- Get a bundle of sage. They can be found at your local health food store or even ordered online.

2- Open the windows in your home to allow for ventilation and to let negative energy leave.

3- Light the sage stick.

(Be mindful of smoke detectors and also do not inhale the smoke directly. Use caution if you have any respiratory issues such as asthma or COPD)

4-  Verbally cast away any negative forces in the name of Jesus while waving the smudge stick around your home.

The power of Christ resides inside us through the Holy Spirit. It is important to verbally cast away any negative energies in the name of JESUS.  Be sure you repeat in the NAME OF JESUS.  The power comes from his blood, not ourselves.

You can also verbally cast away anything specific you want removed from your house.

If you are struggling with arguing with your spouse/family members, cast out the spirit of division. If you are struggling with panic attacks, cast out the spirit of fear. If you are struggling with understanding why certain things have happened, cast out the spirit of confusion. If you are struggling with discontentment, cast out the spirit of envy, etc.

There are some verses you can also read aloud as you are smudging your home.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Romans 8:11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Psalm 143:10  Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!

Ephesians 4:2-6 With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

The Power of the Great Spirit resides in those who have accepted his Son. We can reclaim our homes and our spirits from negative energy and smudging is a great way to do that.
