How to Use Body Butter

HOW TO USE BODY BUTTER

Body butters are a luxurious comfort item that not only moisturize the skin but also enrich it with vitamins and nutrients. They are created from natural ingredients such as cocoa butter, mango butter, shea butter and jojoba butter.  Thicker than lotions, they promote wellness for the skin and can help your skin look younger and can reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

To properly use these amazing substances, you first want to make sure your skin is clean and primed to soak in the most nutrients possible. Exfoliating your skin by dry brushing or using a salt or sugar scrub before applying body butter preps your pores to absorb the healing ingredients.

Another way to promote the healing benefits of body butters is to apply them after you bathe or shower. When the skin is moist and clean, it can further absorb nutrients.

Be sure you are applying a liberal amount of the body butter to your skin and allowing it to soak into your pores before wiping any access off.

It is also important that you choose high quality body butter product that does not contain any unnatural ingredients or fillers.

What you need to know about Essential Oil Diffusers

What you need to know about Essential Oil Diffusers

Aromatherapy has many healing benefits, which is why essential oil diffusers have become staples in holistically minded households. These machines allow us to fill our homes, offices and even cars with the therapeutic effects of essential oils.

There are multiple types of diffusers:  Ultrasonic, nebulizing, heat and evaporative.

Ultrasonic diffusers work by emitting oil particles into the air when added to water.

Nebulizing diffusers are waterless, yet they work by emitting particles of essential oils into the air.

Evaporative diffusers typically disperse the essential oils by using a fan mechanism.

Heat diffusers transfer essential oils into the air by using high temperatures.

Choosing the right diffuser for you is a personal choice depending on the types of oils you diffuse for what benefit and also the size of the environment you are diffusing in.

There are many different designs and forms of diffusers. You can also purchase multiple ones for different uses. For example, a small car diffuser can be great for traveling.

Diffusers are a great way to incorporate aromatherapy into every space in your life. But, if not cleaned properly, essential oil diffusers can actually become a health hazard.

Proper Diffuser Care

  • Once a week, remove the water from your diffuser and wipe the interior with a tiny amount (1tsp) of rubbing alcohol. Allow to completely dry before adding water again. This will dry any excess oils left behind so you can begin to diffuse fresh scents at the next use.
  • Use high quality, therapeutic grade oils. Discount and low-quality oils are typically filled with additives that can clog or harm your diffuser. Before you purchase any essential oils, be sure that it is a high-quality product that is pure.
  • Change the water between oils. It can be tempting to just keep adding drops to your diffuser but it will distort the scent and therapeutic effects. Certain essential oils do not blend well together (such as cinnamon and eucalyptus) So, it is imperative you start fresh when you are diffusing. To achieve the best aromatherapy possible, change the water between scents.
  • Be sure to keep your essential oil diffuser in a safe place away from children and pets. Certain essential oils are not safe for children and you should use caution when diffusing. Certain essential oils do not blend well together. Please research which oils are safe to mix before attempting to blend them.

What is Dry Brushing

What is Dry Brushing

The lymphatic system is one of the most important parts of your immune system that you’ve probably never heard of. This system is a network of tissues and organs that filter toxins. The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport a fluid called lymph that contains infection fighting white blood cells through the body.

Dry brushing is one way you can help keep your lymphatic system running effectively. Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like; it is where you take a dry brush with natural bristles and rub it across your skin to stimulate blood flow, break up lymphatic build up and also exfoliate the skin.

It is recommended that you dry brush daily before you shower.  Doing this every day will help you prevent lymphatic build up and can even promote elasticity and a youthful look for your skin!

For added skincare benefits, applying a body butter such as shea or cocoa butter after you dry brush can help you promote better health!

Holistic Uses for Olive Oil

Olive Oil as a Carrier Oil?

Carrier oils are widely used to dilute essential oils and other organic compounds before they are applied to the skin or used in alternative therapy modalities. They are named carrier oils because they “carry” the essential oil or other organic item into the skin. Using carrier oils is a common safety practice when using essential oils for holistic health purposes.

Olive oil is the most commonly used vegetable oil and is cultivated from olives from the Olea europaea, a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean. Olive oil is a favored choice for carrier oils because it is very easy to find, as most grocery stores carry it. It is also inexpensive and can be used in cooking and also used as a base for many cosmetic and holistic products. It is a great base for beginners who want to start trying to create more alternative products without spending a great deal of money.

One popular recipe that utilizes olive oil as a base is natural furniture polish and anti-dust spray.

All-Natural Dusting Spray Recipe

Materials

1/2 Cup Olive Oil

20 Drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil

15 Drops Lemon Essential Oil

1 Empty Spray Bottle (Glass Preferred to prevent erosion of plastic)

Method

Pour 1/2 Cup Olive Oil into bottle.

Add 25 drops of sweet orange essential oil into bottle.

Add 15 drops of lemon essential oil into bottle.

Shake well to mix all ingredients.

Label the bottle and place in a cool place away from kids and pets.

To Use: Apply to dry cloth and wipe furniture down to polish and dust naturally.

When choosing an olive oil for your holistic base, be sure you are purchasing a pure product that does not contain other oils or fillers. You want to use a 100% pure Olive Oil base for your alternative needs!  The same goes for the essential oils you choose.
