What you need to know about Essential Oil Diffusers

What you need to know about Essential Oil Diffusers

Aromatherapy has many healing benefits, which is why essential oil diffusers have become staples in holistically minded households. These machines allow us to fill our homes, offices and even cars with the therapeutic effects of essential oils.

There are multiple types of diffusers:  Ultrasonic, nebulizing, heat and evaporative.

Ultrasonic diffusers work by emitting oil particles into the air when added to water.

Nebulizing diffusers are waterless, yet they work by emitting particles of essential oils into the air.

Evaporative diffusers typically disperse the essential oils by using a fan mechanism.

Heat diffusers transfer essential oils into the air by using high temperatures.

Choosing the right diffuser for you is a personal choice depending on the types of oils you diffuse for what benefit and also the size of the environment you are diffusing in.

There are many different designs and forms of diffusers. You can also purchase multiple ones for different uses. For example, a small car diffuser can be great for traveling.

Diffusers are a great way to incorporate aromatherapy into every space in your life. But, if not cleaned properly, essential oil diffusers can actually become a health hazard.

Proper Diffuser Care

  • Once a week, remove the water from your diffuser and wipe the interior with a tiny amount (1tsp) of rubbing alcohol. Allow to completely dry before adding water again. This will dry any excess oils left behind so you can begin to diffuse fresh scents at the next use.
  • Use high quality, therapeutic grade oils. Discount and low-quality oils are typically filled with additives that can clog or harm your diffuser. Before you purchase any essential oils, be sure that it is a high-quality product that is pure.
  • Change the water between oils. It can be tempting to just keep adding drops to your diffuser but it will distort the scent and therapeutic effects. Certain essential oils do not blend well together (such as cinnamon and eucalyptus) So, it is imperative you start fresh when you are diffusing. To achieve the best aromatherapy possible, change the water between scents.
  • Be sure to keep your essential oil diffuser in a safe place away from children and pets. Certain essential oils are not safe for children and you should use caution when diffusing. Certain essential oils do not blend well together. Please research which oils are safe to mix before attempting to blend them.

What are the Elements and How Connecting with them can Benefit You!

The Elements are defined as:

Nature, Water, Fire, Earth, Light, Darkness, and Spirit.

Humans are automatically drawn to the elements because we require them to survive.  We are organic creatures and nature is a part of us. Our bodies require sunlight, water and air to sustain themselves. We are attracted to the elements of fire, earth and light because they are a part of us and connect to our physical and spiritual being.

In the current age, we have gotten away from exposure to the elements thanks to modern conveniences. We no longer use candles as primary sources of light or spend as much time in soil gardening due to the conveniences of grocery stores. Spending time in the elements is a wonderful way to connect to your inner being and find better health.

Ways to Connect to the Elements

Earth:

Connect to earth’s element by practicing “grounding” which means to walk around in grass/soil with bare feet.

Fire:

Connect to the fire element by sitting by a fire or by candlelight.

Water:

Connect to the water element by visiting natural lakes, oceans, and streams. You can further connect to this element by swimming in a natural body of water.

Air:

Connect to the air element by sitting in fresh air and feeling the wind. You can also open a window or drive with your windows down.

Light:

To connect to the light element, try to utilize natural light as much as possible. Open the shades in your home or office instead of using artificial lights and get at least 30 minutes of safe sun exposure daily.

Darkness:

Connecting to the dark element is essential to circadian rhythm. Being exposed to dimmer lights and nighttime signals your pituitary gland to release the appropriate amounts of hormones to induce sleep and restfulness. Dim your lights 2 hours before bed and make it a habit to go look at the stars at night, even for just a moment.

Spirit:

To connect to your spiritual element, meditation is essential. Spending a few moments each day in a peaceful, calming mindset will help you center your spirit.

We hope you find balance in your spirit and are here to help you find, hope, healing and happiness.

The Hippies were right, We need good Vibrations!

The Hippies were right, We need good Vibrations!

What are Vibrations?

It is a known scientific fact that all living things emit a frequency and vibrations. Vibrations refer to the movement of atoms and particles caused by energy. All living things and objects that contain atoms emit a vibrational frequency.

Frequencies are measured in hertz (Hz) units and are valued at the rate that vibrations occur. Frequencies are used to discern vibrational patterns. Atoms vibrating at a higher rate are valued at a higher frequency than an atom that is vibrating at a lower rate. Understanding the difference between high and low frequencies is imperative to understand how vibrational frequencies can impact your health.

You, as a human, emit infrasonic waves, which are low-frequency vibrations caused by heartbeats, breathing and the pumping of blood throughout the body. Live organs also produce energy frequencies. All living things and organic compounds emit an energy field. Studies have shown that free electrons absorbed into the body through direct contact with the Earth help regulate natural processes such as circadian rhythm regulation and reduce acute stress and inflammation levels. Connecting with Earth’s frequencies may help align the body’s biological processes and regulate diurnal body rhythms. Earth’s vibrations have also been shown to make a difference in patterns of  human cortisol secretion.

Researcher Bruce Taino discovered that the healthiest bodies resonate at a frequency of 62-70 MHz.  It was his theory that believed that when a person’s frequency drops below 58 MHz, the body becomes susceptible to diseases, bacteria, and viruses. A body with a low frequency negatively influences the energy aura. According to Taino’s theory, when a person’s frequency drops due to environmental and/or physiological factors, the immune system is weakened. He believed that unresolved emotions and trauma are stored in our bodies and also in our electromagnetic energy fields.

We, as human beings have unfortunately separated ourselves from nature. We are indoors most of the time and our culture has devalued the importance of natural experiences such as walking around barefoot, feeling the wind blow onto our skin and safely soaking in the warmth of the sunlight. Humans are organic beings that need connection with the elements to have the most optimal health possible. For example, the lack of sun exposure in our current culture has created an epidemic of low Vitamin D levels. Low vitamin D levels have been linked to a lowered immune system response, osteoporosis, bone wasting, lethargy and increased fatigue.  Our culture has forgotten there are natural solutions to many of the health ailments we struggle with.

Richard Feynman’s studies on electromagnetism won him a nobel prize and proved that when the human body’s potential is equal to the Earth’s electric potential, it becomes an extension of the Earth’s innate electric system. The Earth’s potential thus becomes the “working agent that cancels, reduces, or pushes away electric fields from the body.” Previous studies also showed an improved immune cell response and  pain reduction from the practice of earthing.

The earth itself emits frequencies. According to a study published by the National Institutes of Health, the Earth’s surface possesses a continuous amount of electrons.  The Earth’s frequency potential can promote an internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of living things.

How to Raise your Frequency

1-Earthing/Grounding.

Earthing, also known as grounding, is a practice that can benefit virtually every living being. It doesn’t cost anything but it can bring a wide variety of benefits. All living things have an optimal frequency that occurs when each of the cells in our body vibrates at the frequency it was created to. Earthing is a great way to raise your vibrational frequency.

Earthing or Grounding is the concept of physically connecting to any part of earth. This can be grass, dirt, water, basically it is physically experiencing one or more of the elements. Here is a list of easy ways you can raise your vibrational frequency.

  • Go Barefoot.

Taking your shoes off and feeling the grass between your toes is a great way to connect with the earth beneath your feet. Simply take your shoes off and take a walk around your yard. If you don’t have a yard, go to a local park or nature reserve, take your shoes off and take a relaxing stroll.

2- Connect with the elements.

The four elements are: Fire. Water. Earth and Air. Connecting with them will help you raise your vibrational frequency.

To connect with fire: Light a natural, organic candle or build a safely contained campfire in a fire pit or other safe space.

To connect with air:  Open a window or step outside to enjoy the breeze.

To connect with water: Find a natural source such as a lake, creek, pond or ocean. If you do not live near a natural source, there are many affordable “zen” fountains you can purchase to help you connect with the water element.

To connect with Earth: There are many various ways to connect with the Earth element. As previously mentioned, the practice of grounding is one way but there are also activities such as gardening or even just playing in a sandbox or with dirt can help you find serenity.

3- Protect your Energy!

Negative people and actions can decrease your vibration and impact your quality of life. It is important to analyze your life for things, experiences and influences that might be a negative force. Are the people in your life encouraging you or bring you down? Are you enjoying life or just enduring it?  Are you living or existing?

If you find that your life contains negative forces, it is imperative you eliminate as many of those toxins as possible. You get ONE life, there is no sense wasting it with negativity.

4- Be positive!

You can raise your frequency with your perception. The brain responds to the reality it thinks it’s in. If you continuously tell yourself negative things, it will perceive a negative reality. When you focus on what is wrong, you lose sight of what is right.  Focusing on a positive mindset, gratitude and affirmations will  help you raise your frequency.

5- Take Care of your Body!

Eat healthy, organic foods, as these have a higher vibrational frequency. When you are giving your body whole foods that are nutritious, you are giving it the best chance for wellness.

Remember that you are an organic creature with a mind, body and spirit. You don’t just have energy, you ARE energy. You deserve to protect your energy and live the best life possible.

Wishing you hope, healing and happiness.

Complete Guide to Smudging

Complete Guide to Smudging

dream-catcher-273482_1920

Smudging is a popular native American ritual used to cleanse negative energy and promote a positive environment. It is an ancient ritual still performed today that is thought to improve one’s health and wellbeing. There have also been some medical studies showing that this ritual actually cleanses bacteria and viruses out of the air.

The most popular herb used in smudging practices is typically sage. The herb sage, also known as salvia plant, is an herb highly regarded in Native American culture and is also used for natural remedies, food flavorings and herbal teas.

Below is a list of the most popular types of mediums for smudging.

  • Blue Sage- Commonly referred to as “Grandmother Sage.” It is easily identifiable by its beautiful, bright blue flowers, and is similar to Lavender. This plant is thought to have a powerful impact on negative energy and was used in the most intense of Native American spiritual ceremonies, including exorcisms. Blue Sage is believed to be strong enough to drive out even the darkest of energies.
  • Cedar- Typically used along with white sage, Cedar is a potent scented compound used by Native American cultures to cultivate new beginnings, protection from evil and spiritual grounding.
  • Palo Santo- This plant is a popular choice during smudging ceremonies because of its rich scent of citrus, pine, mint and lemon. It is a tree that is considered part of the citrus family. It is used as a healing remedy due to its high concentration of D-Limonen, which has been shown to treat heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) symptoms. In smudging ceremonies, it is believed to create a feeling of calm and promote spiritual balance.
  • Yerba Santa- Spanish for “holy weed” or “holy herb.” This herb’s leaves are used for many herbal remedies to treat respiratory sicknesses such as colds, dry cough and allergies. It is also used as a topical salve to treat poison ivy and skin rashes. When used in smudging rituals, it is thought to summon protection, consecration and love.
  • Sweet Grass- In Native American cultures, many tribes regard sweet grass as a sacred plant and burn it in smudging ceremonies. The sweet scent of this grass is believed to attract good spirits and is used during prayer to help connect with the Great Spirit and also ancestors. The roots of sweetgrass contain coumarin which is considered a carcinogenic and should not be taken internally. It should only be used for aromatic purposes.
  • Mugwort- This plant is also referred to as Black Sage, though it is actually not a type of sage but is an herb believed to strengthen intuitive abilities, bring peace and clear negative energy.

Once you’ve chosen your smudging medium, you can properly perform a smudging ceremony with the instructions below.

How to Perform a Smudging Ceremony

  • Get a bundle of your medium of choice. Many items from the list above can be found at health food stores, local greenhouses or can even be ordered online.

  • Open the windows in your home to allow for ventilation and to let negative energy leave.

  • Safely light the sage stick or other smudging medium with a match.

  • Be mindful of smoke detectors.

  • Be careful to not inhale the smoke created from the smudging medium directly.

  • Do not get smoke in eyes or mouth.

  • Be mindful that your smudging medium is on fire and do not get it near fabrics or anything flammable.

  • Use caution if you have any respiratory issues such as asthma or COPD.

  • Verbally cast away any negative forces while waving the smudge stick around your home.

  • You can also verbally cast away anything specific you want removed from your house such as bad memories, negative energies, dark forces or spiritual strongholds.

  • Be sure to mentally and spiritually cleanse yourself with prayer or meditation to prevent negative energy from entering your spirit after you perform your smudging ritual.

Smudging can be a great way to renew the energy in your home!

How to Bathe for Better Health

Baths have been used for thousands of years to evoke healing benefits and comfort. There are many additives such as essential oils, herbs, flower essences and minerals that can be added to your bath to help you find natural remedies for multiple ailments.

Soak Safely!

Ensure your water temperature is appropriate to avoid burns. Use caution if you have a pre-existing condition that may inhibit your ability to sense burns and discomfort such as nerve damage or diabetic neuropathy.

It is recommended you soak for at least 15 minutes but no longer than 45 minutes per therapeutic bath session.

It is also recommended that you drink at least an 8oz glass of pure water before and after your soak to prevent dehydration.

Check Ingredients!

Be sure you are using 100% pure ingredients when you soak in a bath. Impure products can increase the toxins that are absorbed into your body during a soak.

Read the labels of any bath product before you soak in it. If you have any allergies or skin sensitivities, be careful to avoid anything that might trigger issues.

Avoid apparent toxins in bathing or hygiene products such as: Parabens, formaldehyde, methylene glycol and phthalates.

Use Natural Comforts!

There are many natural things you can add to your bath to provide not only a calming experience, but potentially a healing one as well.

Essential oils can provide a relaxing scent and also contain many healing properties. For relaxation, you can consider adding lavender, chamomile and/or clary sage essential oils to your bath.

Other natural products can provide potential healing benefits such as Epson salt for pain relief or baking soda for balancing the body’s PH. You can also add fresh or dried herbs to your bath to soak in various health benefits.

Only use pure Epson salts, herbs and 100% pure, therapeutic grade essential oils that are not mixed with other ingredients.

Remember to check with your healthcare team before starting any alternative therapy.
